Gianni Schicchi is a one-act broad comic opera by Giacomo Puccini about estate settlement and marriage brokering. Opera Chats for Saturday School at 10:30 a.m. on June 3rdwill present the Woody Allen video version starring Plácido Domingo. Plácido Domingo is widely regarded as the king of opera and this opera features the famous aria "O mio babbino caro" which is one ofPuccini's best known, and one of the most popular arias in all of opera. Puccini has a Uvalde connection through the PucciniFamily after whom our Puccini Lane is named – the composer was the cousin of Jospeh Puccini who immigrated here from Italy in the 1860's. The original version of Gianni Schicchi was praised for its inventiveness and imagination. Retaining those qualities, this version has updatedcharacters dressed as Mafia members and the hilarity reigns with a new twist of creativity in costumes and rich settings.
